MISS HARRIET ROSE McKAY, PORT CHALMERS. Great regret was felt in Port Chalmers at the death of Miss Harriet Rose McKay, who passed away, fortified by the rites of Holy Church, on the morning of March 18. Deceased was the daughter of Mrs. Mead and the late Joseph McKay, of Magnetic street, Port Chalmers. She was an ex-pupil of St. Dominic's College, Dunedin. Her kindly disposition won for her many friends, and her sterling piety was a source of edification to all. During the long illness which preceded her happy death Rev. Father O'Reilly and the devoted Sisters of St. Joseph were untiring in their attention to her. May she rest in peace. MR. PATRICK O'NEILL, ARROWTOWN. Another of the- rapidly diminishing band of early settlers passed .away at his home on Monday, March 6, in the person of Mr. Patrick O'Neill, who had resided in the district for upwards of 46 years (writes a correspondent). The late Mr. O'Neill was born in Tipperary in 1834, and emigrated to New South Wales when quite a young man. He was for some time in the police force in Sydney, and subsequently came over to New Zealand. After spending a short time at Hokitika he came to this district, where lie. resided up to the time of his death. He was identified with several mining ventures in the Upper Shotover district, 'and was farming for some years at Miller's Flat. The late Mr. O'Neill was of a quiet, retiring disposition, and highly respected by all who knew him. He was a fervent and practical Catholic, and a true Irishman. During his last, illness he was attended by the. Rev. Father Graham, and he died a holy and happy death. He leaves a grown-up family of four sons and one daughter (Mrs. W. Mcßride, of Arrow) to mourn the loss of a good father. —R.I.P.
