Invercargill

(From our own correspondent.) The second election to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Borough Council took place on Wednesday last, the first election being declared invalid. On this occasion two further candidates presented themselves, but Mr. Edward Sheehan again topped the poll. The Rev. T. Harrington (a retired parson) was one of the new aspirants, and in his nomination speech referred to federations dictating as to how electors should vote, etc., referring of course to Mr. Sheehan, who is a member of the local committee of the Catholic Federation. The Rev. Mr. Harrington was at the bottom of the poll with 70 odd votes, and forfeited his deposit. Advice has been received here that Mr. J. Collins, son of Mr. James Collins and brother of Rev. Father Collins, of Holy Cross College, has' been successful in obtaining his B.E. degree. : .. On March 17 the pupils of the Marist Brothers' School will give an entertainment in the Municipal Theatre, the proceeds to be devoted to the school funds. The object of the entertainment should be sufficient to attract a crowded audience. . ; .
