He resided in Wellington for some years, and about 27 years ago settled in Hamua, Pahiatua, when that country was covered with native bush. Mr. Burke was a generous and big-hearted man, a sincere friend, and a thorough Catholic. He was highly respected in the district of Hamua, as was testified by the large number of■ people who attended his funeral. He was buried in Pahiatua Cemetery. Very Rev. Dean McKenna officiated at the graveside, attended by. Rev. Fathers T. McKenna and T. Guinane. The death, is announced (says the local paper) of Mr. John McGillicuddy, an old and well-known pioneer of this district, who was one of the earliest workers in the Boatman’s district and who had been identified with the place for many years. For some time past the deceased gentleman had been seriously ill, and the end was not unexpected. He was greatly liked and esteemed, and his familiar figure will be greatly missed in the town. He leaves a widow, a son, and two daughters, to whom the sympathy of the townspeople is extended in their sad bereavement. The funeral was very largely attended. There were residents present from all parts of. the district to pay their respects to an old and much esteemed pioneer. The Rev.
