CRONADUN

(From an occasional correspondent.) ' | We regret to record the death of Mrs. J. Brazil, wife of Mr. J. Brazil, one of the oldest settlers on the West. Coast. The deceased lady was highly respected, and took a great interest iif the erecting of the chapel at Cronadun. The bereaved husband and family have the sympathy of the community.—R.l.P. ; OPENING of the cronadun church. The opening of the Catholic Church at Cronadun on Sunday, October 18, was a very interesting event. A great number of the /residents from the Landing to Reefton, were present, and the Hibernians from Reef ton were well represented. i The church itself is a charming little building, very neatly designed and well built, and was most beautifully decorated for the occasion. It is 50 feet in length, and its width is 20 feet, and was erected at a cost of £350. i Rev. Father Gal erne and the'contractor (Mr. O’Donnell) are to be congratulated on the excellent result attained.* | In the opening the Rev. Father Galerne addressed the congregation, and stated that he was pleased to be able to; ask his Grace to bless the new church at Cronadun. He pointed out the great work and zeal which had been at last enabled to compass their object, the erection of a House, of God in Cronadun. , ; His Grace Archbishop O’Shea congratulated the priest, and the people .on _the successful ..erection -of . the church. It marked another step in the progress of the Catholicity on the West Coast, where the faith was indeed in a flourishing stale. It was another House of God, a place for the veritable presence of God. He knew the community was a small and not wealthy one, and he realised the zeal and self-sacrifice that had. been exerted in the, erection of , the edifice. He had much pleasure in blessing the church and the people who had contributed so nobly •to it, and congratulated them on the possession of such a suitable building in which they could perform the holy rites of their faith. After this ceremony'was concluded his Grace confirmed twenty boys and girls, and delivered- an eloquent address, v ; r— V. '
