(From an occasional correspondent.) rt ' The convent^school; Barfield, conducted by., the Sisters of Mercy, was examined by Mr. J. B. Mayne, Government inspectorj| and the following/ is, taken from his report :•The order, discipline, and the general behaviour of the .pupils'are highly commendable |»pom - prehensive schemes' of work have been covered, and the satisfactory quality of the work ThS a majority |of the subjects shows that the ; teachers are working faithfully in the best interests of the school. » Singmg and • 11 J. 1 1-I<■ • *-v1 rf I i . sewing are well taught, while in the upper classes provision is made for instruction in woodwork, and-cookery. From Standard ITT. to Standard VI., of the subjects of instruction, reading, recitation, formal English, dplnposition, wri’ing, and v drawing have received skilful treatment, with very satisfactory results. Standard'll, and Standard I. are uniformly good classes;- and the sounds progress made is evidence of capable teaching. The -primer class is f: also j making satisfactory progress.
