CATHOLIC IMMIGRATION COMMITTEE, - WELLINGTON.

(From our own correspondent.) i; A meeting of the above was held at the. Federation rooms, Lower Cuba street, on Thursday, August 6, nine members attending. The vice-president (Miss Burke) took the chair. A quantity of routine business was dealt with, and an interesting report of the visit to the Ruapehu, when a number of Catholic passengers was assisted, was read. It is gratifying to note that the vessel was visited at Hobart by representatives of .the St. Vincent de Paul Society, who distributed C.I.C. welcome cards and badges. Members reported that attention was given to several immigrant girls who were on the sick list. St. Bride’s Club was stated to be flourishing, and fully justifying its existence. i WELLINGTON DIOCESAN COUNCIL. ‘ I The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the Wellington Diocesan Council was held at the Archbishop’s House, Patterson street, Wellington, on Monday, August 3, 1914. The Very Rev. Dean McKenna, V.G., was in the chair, and the following members were present—Rev. Fathers Daly and J. Herring, Messrs Ellis, Crombie, Parsonage, Coony, and the hon. secretary (Mr. W. F. Johnson). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the correspondence, inward and outward, dealt with. The secretary reported that, ten thousand copies of the .leaflets entitled, Reasons for Jointing the Catholic Federation, had been distributed throughout. the archdiocese, and that each parish committee had received a supply. ' A request from the Dominion Counpil that a circular be issued with, reference to .the. questions of, impure and anti-Catholic literature, juvenile courts, and electoral enrolments was agreed to, and the secretary instructed to issue the same without delay. The purchase of a marquee.for the use of Catholics at the military encampments came up for consideration. It was reported that a suitable marquee could be obtained at a moderate price, and a committee consisting of Messrs. Ellis, Parsonage, and Coony were authorised to deal with the matter. The question of holding a gathering of Catholics in the archdiocese, on the lines of the Southland gathering of February, last, was held over till the next meeting, and the secretary was instructed to make inquiries in the meantime,' : ' V ~
