WEDDING BELLS
K A V AN AGII—SH A N AH AN . (From an occasional correspondent.) A marriage which attracted a good deal of attention in the district was performed at the Catholic Church, Manaia, recently by the Rev. Father Saunderson, the ceremony being witnessed by a large number of friends of the bride and bridegroom’s patents. Hie parties to the marriage were Mr. L. Kavanaglh Hawcra, and Miss Eileen Mary Shanahan’ Manaia. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a dress of white ivory satin, with court train and muon over-skirt trimmed with shadow lace and pearls. She carried a shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums, snowdrops, and maiden-hair fern. The bridesmaid was Miss Kathleen Shanahan, sister of the bride, who wore a cream silk frock, trimmed with Limerick lace, a black velvet hat, with white feathers, and carried a lovely bouquet of chrysanthemums and asparagus fern. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. J. Kavanagh, as best man. The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a gold albert, and that of the bridegroom to the bride a gold watch and chain, the bridesmaid receiving a gold bangle. As the bridal party left the church Mrs. Millies, who presided at the organ, played the Wedding March.’ A reception was afterwards held at the residence of the bride’s parents, when the usual toasts were honored, among the guests being the Rev. Father Bergin, formerly of Manaia. The newly-wedded couple subsequently left by motor for New Plymouth, en, route for Auckland and Rotorua. The bride, as her going-away dress, wore a tailor-made costume, with black velour hat, with white plumes and a- set of furs. A number of valuable wedding presents were received, including many substantial cheques.
