DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN

The Dunedin parish committee of the Catholic Federation meets in St. Joseph’s Hall on Sunday evening. The half-yearly meeting of the Diocesan Council of the Catholic Federation takes place on Friday evening. • ' The retreat of the clergy began on Monday evening at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, and is being conducted by the Very Rev. Father Roche, C.SS.R. Although the mayoral campaign is not yet under way (says the livening Star), Cr. Marlow, whose candidature has already been announced, received a capital reference at the hands of Colonel Collins at the function tendered the visiting bowlers by the Dominion of New Zealand Bowling Association. Cr. Marlow, who is president of the association, had early in the evening acknowledged the pleasure he had experienced in occupying the position, and later on Colonel Collins paid a fine tribute to the ability the president had displayed in the presidency. He casually remarked that the bowlers had shown their good sense in electing him to that position, and, continuing, drew loud applause by affirming that the people of Dunedin were going to make manifest their good sense by electing him Mayor of the city. The election would be in April next, and the first citizen of Dunedin would also be the president of the Bowling Association. In Mr. Marlow they had an ideal chairman. He had displayed firmness and tact. This somewhat impromptu- appreciation was enjoyed immensely, and was, indeed, one of the hits of the evening.
