His Lordship the Bishop attended the opening meeting. Mr. Girling-Butcher (organiser) was present throughout. A detailed report will be forwarded by mail. A meeting to take steps to welcome Rev. Father Holbrook on arrival here was held in the Hibernian Hall this evening. His Lordship the Bishop presided, and Rev. The following executive committee was set up:—Rev. Father Ormond, Misses McIlhone, Gough, and Rist, Messrs. Hiscocks, J. McKenna, Robertson, Little, Sheahan, and Mahon. The speakers arc to be his Lordship Bishop Cleary, Right Rev. Mgr. Brodie, and Mr. Nerheny. Mr. John McCormack’s season here was an unqualified success. His three concerts were crowded, and unbounded enthusiasm prevailed. At the last concert he was recalled four times and obliged to sing. His Lordship Bishop Cleary attended the last concert on Friday. He invited Mr. McCormack, Mr. Vincent O’Brien, and Mr. Denis McSweeney (treasurer of the party) to lunch at the palace, where 'also most of the city priests attended. Mr. McCormack, who was joined here by Mrs. McCormack, their two children, and Miss Foley (sister of Mrs. McCormack), with the rest of the concert party, left on Saturday evening for Vancouver. The next concert will be given in Victoria, British Columbia. A tour of the United States will occupy him until next Mky, thence he goes to fulfil engagements at Covent Garden, London, up to September. His Lordship the Bishop, accompanied by Rev. Father O’Malley, returned to the city on Wednesday night after a visit to the northern portion of the diocese. His Lordship left Auckland on Friday of last week in his motor car, and first visited Warkworth. He then went on to Omaha, and thence to Pakiri, where he spent three days. The Bishop’s motor car was the first to visit Pakiri. From this little township his Lordship took his way by the wild mountain track, never before negotiated by a motor car, to Te Arai, whence he travelled to Mangawai and Maungatu. The next place visited was Whangarei. Then he crossed to Dargaville, and on Wednesday he made a non-stop run to Auckland, arriving there on Wednesday night. The roads on the last section of his journey, he says, were in parts extremely rough, and were passable only on account of the fact that the car is an exceptionally strong one. J
