(From our own correspondent.) r December 1. ; Rev. Father Forde, of Auckland, arrived in Temuka on Saturday last, and celebrated the 8 o’clock

Rev. Father McCarthy, S.M., Marist Missionary, left on Friday for Leeston, "where he opened a week's mission on Sunday last. On Sunday next Father McCarthy opens a mission at Suuthbridge.

The ten days' mission by the Marist Fathers was brought to a close in St. Joseph's Church on Tuesday evening last, when Rev. Father McCarthy preached an eloquent sermon to a very large congregation. At the conclusion of the discourse the Pontifical blessing was imparted by Father McCarthy, who praised the congregation for the manner in which they had taken advantage of this time of grace. Rev. Father Kerley, S.M., took the opportunity of thanking the Marist Missionaries for the good work they had accomplished in the parish during the short period of activity.

The first meeting of St. Joseph's branch of the H.A.C.B. Society took place in the club rooms on Monday last, the president (Bro. M. Crannitch) presiding over an attendance of 25 members. Seven candidates were proposed. The president announced that he would present a sash to the member bringing in the most new members before quarter night, such number to exceed five. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the donor. After transacting general business the meeting terminated.
