NOT UP IN THE SUBJECT
A recent book tells a story of a dinner given by the ambitious wife of a millionaire tanner. The lady noticed, to her annoyance, that her husband did not speak a word to their smart guests, and when she got an opportunity she whispered angrily: Why don’t you talk What’s the good?’ replied the tanner contemptuously. ‘ There ain’t one of ’em as knows a thing about leather.’
