_ Evidence of the damage caused to trout in the fishing streams by eels is afforded in the fact that on Monday week Ranger Friend distributed 50,000 brown trout fry in various parts of the Otamete Stream, Rcurning about an hour later (says the Mai aura Emu/n), he discovered a large eel in one pool where a quantity had been deposited. The eel was gaffed, and on being opened was found to cpntain no fewer than 710 fry.
