The mission, to be preached by the Marist Fathers, will open at St. Mary’s on Wednesday, October . 8, beginning with the children’s mission, which will terminate on the following Sunday, when that for the women will -begin. A week’s mission for the men will open on Sunday, October 19. The annual meeting of the St. Mary’s branch of the Ladies of Charity was held in Ozanam Lodge on Tuesday evening, September 30, when the election of officers for the ensuing term took place. The following were elected:—President, Miss Morgan ; vice-president, Mrs. J. S. Barrett; secretary, Miss L. Johnston; ward-robe-keeper, Miss M. Ryan. The member's of St. Mary’s Choir met in Ozanam Lodge on Wednesday evening, October 1, to make a presentation to their late choirmaster, Mr. Corrigan, in recognition of his services of fourteen years. The Very Rev. Dean Hills, S.M., V.G., in making the presentation, which took the form of a purse of sovereigns, said he regretted losing the services of so . able a conductor. Mr. Corrigan, in a few words, thanked the donors, and said that owing to professional engagements he was unable to give the choir the attention it required. Mr. A. P. Do La Cour was elected to fill the vacancy. On Rosary Sunday, at St. Mary’s Church, 42 children received their First Communion at the 9.30 o’clock Mass. The Very Rev. Dean Hills, S.M., V.G., was celebrant, and gave a short address to the children, in the course of which he exhorted them to be always faithful to the teaching of their holy religion. The children were entertained at breakfast in the schoolroom after Mass, and in the afternoon they assisted at devotions, during which they renewed their Baptismal vows. Acts of consecration were made to the Sacred Heart, our Blessed Lady, and St. Joseph. The ceremonies concluded with a procession, recitation of the Rosary, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. HORNBY. At the 8 o’clock Mass at Hornby on Sunday last, a number of children made their First Communion. The Rev. Father Hoare, S.M., officiated, and after the Gospel addressed the children, reminding them of the great happiness which was theirs that day in being able to receive their Lord in Holy Communion, and impressed on them the necessity of frequent Communion as the best means of preserving that happiness. In the afternoon the Rev. Father again spoke to the children on the promises of Baptism, and concluded by asking them to renew their. Baptismal vows, the whole congregation joining in the responses. Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament terminated a day that will be long remembered by the young communicants.
