A CHANGE OF EMPLOYMENT
When George Stephenson, the famous railway inventor, was once leaving Sheffield for London by the night mail-coach he jocularly remarked to the coachman and guard: ‘What is to become of all you saucy coachmen and guards when the railways are made?’ The coachman was equal to the occasion. ‘Oh, sir,’ he replied, ‘they’ll make civil engineers of us!’
