Huntly

(From an occasional correspondent.)

,V- For the purpose of liquidating the debt on the presbytery a bazaar was held in the King's Hall from May Bto May 12 inclusive. As if has been over three years since the last bazaar, it proved a great attraction to the general public, who attended every night in large numbers, though the weather was very wet and cold. . ;>:'--. '

The Rev. Father Cahill, in his opening remarks, referred to the object for which the bazaar was organised, and asked all present to make it a success, and then invited Mr. Bailey, J.P., the chairman of the Huntly Town Board, to open the fair. -' Mr. Bailey, in a happy speech, complimented the Catholics on the way their bazaars were carried out, and concluded by declaring the bazaar open and wishing it every success. From every point of view it proved to be an unqualified success, due principally to the untiring energy and zeal displayed by those connected with its organisation. The various stallholders and their assistants excelled themselves. The ladies were indefatigable, and they were ably assisted by the men's committee, which consisted of Messrs. C. Braun, J. Darby, W. Darby, F. Farrell, T. McGill, W. McGowen, M. F. McLeod, T. Hacket, J.' Mohan, and W. Ryan, while as secretaries Mrs. Darby, sen., and Mr. T. Molloy performed their duties with tact and efficiency. Messrs. T. McGill, F. Farrell, and the secretary had their hands full in manipulating the ballot-box, and the fact that their efforts evoked no adverse comment is a compliment that they may be well proud of. The treasurer,

Rev. Father Cahill, and Mrs. L. B. Harris, jun., held no sinecure office, and. carried out their duties in a manner which gave satisfaction to all.

Every evening things were kept going. The bicycle contest, so well managed by Messrs. F. Cox, W. Ryan, and F. McLeod, and the tugs-of-war kept attention engaged, while, the- brass bandy assisted . by the string band, consisting of Messrs Forrmond (piano), W. Darby (violin), and J. Darby (flute), did a great deal to enliven the proceedings. The following is a list of the stallholders and assistants: / \\ \ ' x
