A largely attended farewell social was tendered on Saturday evening, May 10, to Mr. John Cotter, who for some time has managed the Heriot branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Company, and has been promoted to manage the Milton branch of the same company. The function was held at the Heriot Railway Hotel, the catering being in host McVeigh's best style. Mr. J. L. Herbert (of Ardmore) was chairman, being supported by representatives of the whole district, agricultural, pastoral, and commercial. . A very pleasant evening was spent in song and story and a comprehensive toast list gone through.; ' . I " The chairman, on behalf of the district, presented Mr. Cotter with a well-filled purse of sovereigns, together with a handsome gold brooch for Mrs Cotter and an autograph album for Miss Maggie Cotter, as a slight mark of esteem, and in recognition of the way he had conducted business during his stay amongst them, and with best wishes for his future, and congratulations on his promotion. The chairman's remarks were endorsed by Messrs. Chas. Todd, J. M. Smith, Chas. McVeigh, D. He would also like to take the opportunity of tendering his best thanks for the many kindnesses extended to his wife, daughter, and himself while residing in the district.
