WEDDING BELLS

HE ALE Y—ROCHE, . A very pretty wedding, and one in which a great deal of. interest locally was taken (says; the Tuapeka Times), was celebrated in St. Patrick's Church, Lawrence, on Wednesday morning last. The contracting parties were Mr. Michael Healey, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Healey, Waimate, and Miss Kathleen B. Roche, third daughter of Mrs. J. Roche, Blue Spur. A Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Very Rev. Mgr. O'Leary, assisted by Rev. Father O'Connell. The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. T. Roche), looked cuarming, her gown being of cream satin charmeuse, draped and trimmed with real point and Limerick lace (the gift of her mother). Her veil, which was also of point lace, was made by her mother, and was caught at either side by the usual sprays of orange blossom. The bride carried a beautiful bouquet of chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. The bridesmaids were Misses Sarah Roche (sister of the bride) and B. Heale}' (sister of the bridegroom), who were both dressed in biscuit colored silk voile made with a slight pannier effect. They also carried bouquets of chrysanthemums and autumn leaves. Mr. J. Healey (brother of the bridegroom) was best man. The church was well" filled with the relatives and friends of both families. Miss Mary Woods, L.R.A.M., played the ' Wedding March ' both on. the entrance and departure of the bridal party, and also the music throughout the service. The bride's gift to the bridegroom was a set of gold sleeve-links, and the bridegroom's to the bride a beautiful set of sables, and to the bridesmaids a gold bangle and pendant respectively. At the conclusion of the ceremony the guests were conveyed to the Blue Spur, where after the happy couple had received the felicitations of their friends, the wedding breakfast was partaken of. This was laid in the Oddfellows' Hall, the Rev. Father O'Connell presiding. At its conclusion the usual toasts incidental to so happy an occasion were duly honored. The high esteem in which the newlymarried couple are held was manifested by a magnificent collection of presents, inculding several cheques. In the afternoon the happy couple .left for Dunedin en route for Christchurch, where the honeymoon is to be spent. The bride's going-away gown was a navy blue tailor-made costume, with hat of black beaver, trimmed with white ostrich plumes.

GAMBLE—THURBON. A quiet but very interesting wedding took place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Taumarunui, on Wednesday, May 7, the contracting parties being Miss Essie M. Thurbon, eldest daughter of Mr. Joseph Thurbon, Peak View, Cooma, N.S.W., and Mr. David Gamble, of the local railway staff, third son of Mr. J. J. Gamble, of High street, Wellington. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by the bride's friends of the Altar Society, and the widespread popularity of the young, couple in Taumarunui was apparent from the large congregation to witness the ceremony. The Rev. Father Williams officiated, and celebrated the Nuptial Mass. The bride, who was attended by Miss May Maguire, of Auckland, and-given away by Mr. P. Gavin, of Taumarunui, wore a travelling costume of navy blue. Mr. J. Gamble, of Wellington (brother of the bridegroom), was best man. After Mass the wedding party was entertained to breakfast by Father Williams at the presbytery, where the many and valuable wedding gifts were on view. In the afternoon the bride and bridegroom, with a large number of friends, were entertained by Mrs. McGrane to' afternoon tea at the Railway Hotel, and left for Wellington by the evening train amid cheers and manifold expressions of goodwill from the large crowd of friends assembled on the platform to see them off. Mr. and Mrs. Gamble joined the Wollochra at Wellington on Friday for a two months' trip in Australia, returning to Taumarunui (where they intend to reside) about the middle of July. A very pleasant trip and a safe return is the wish of their many friends in Taumarunui.

HAYES—O'LOUGHLIN;

~. ; .., (From an occasional correspondent.) : I ; A very, pretty wedding /was solemnised on Wednesday, May at St. .Joseph's,Church, Temuka, the contracting parties being Miss Nora O'Loughlin, youngest daughter of Mrs. Michael O'Loughlin; Summer Hill Farm,' Waipi, and Mr. John Hayes, : eldest son of ( Mr. J. Hayes, Rosscarbery, Co. Cork. " Rev. Father 'Lezer officiated. As the bride entered the church the :' Wedf: ding March' was played by Miss Greta Daly. The bride, who was given away by her brother (Mr. . Ef \ O'Loughlin), looked charming in a trained gown of white eolienne, with silk lace trimmings. The pretty embroidered veil was fastened with orange blossoms. She also wore her Child of Mary mantle,-and carried a white ivory, prayer book. The bride was attended by Miss Mary Leary as bridesmaid, ' who wore a pretty frock of old rose cashmere, and a large cream velvet hat, with a wreath of berries and foliage. She. also wore a handsome set of white furs, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. P. Lyons as best man. At the conclusion "of the ceremony the bridal party left the church to ■ the strains of the ' Wedding March.' The guests then adjourned to the residence of the bride's mother, where the breakfast was partaken of, Rev. Father Lezer presiding. In the afternoon the happy couple left by motor to catch the express for the south, where the honeymoon was spent. The bride's travelling costume was a mixed tweed, large black and purple velvet hat, with purple mount, and a set of grey furs. Among the presents was a handsome chair, the gift of the Children of Mary, of which society the bride was an old and much-esteemed member.-
