OBITUARY

: MR. WALTER HE WES, STRATFORD. - We regret to report the death of Mr. Walter Hewes, Stratford, who passed away at the age of 55 years. The deceased was .... admitted to - the local hospital on the evening of May 2 suffering from cerebral troubles, and died a few hours later. The late Mr. Hewes was born in London in 1858, and had been a resident of New Zealand for about twenty-three years, the greater part of which was spent -.in Stratford. His death came as a great shock to his many friends in r the district. The late Mr. Hewes became a convert about fifteen years ago. He was a most sincere and practical Catholic, and was a regular attendant in the choir. For "the past seven years he played the organ" in the church. He died fortified by all the rites of the Church. How popular he was in the district was evidenced by the * large concourse of people who followed the remains to the cemetery on Sunday, May 4. The burial service was read by the Rev. Father Maples. : Much sympathy is expressed for the wife and three young children of the deceased. —R.I.P.
