CATHOLIC FEDERATION

-. WELLINGTON. (From our own correspondent.) The Dominion Executive met last Thursday under the presidency of Mr. A. H. Casey. A neat design for letter headings was selected. A good part of tne evening was devoted to discussing the immigration question, which had been brought under the notice of the executive by the Christchurch branch and the Ladies Auxiliary of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Wellington, and it was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs requesting a verification of the reported statement made by him before the Empire Trade Commission in reference to the subsidising of certain denominational institutions out of public funds, and also to apply for the extension of facilities to the lady members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society to visit the Home vessels with the immigration officers to look after the wants of Catholic immigrants. The following are the officers elected for the Te Aro Parish Council: —President, Rev. Father Barra; vice-president, Mr. George Lambert; secretary, Mr. R. H. Williams; treasurer, Mr. 11. A. Parsonage; delegates to the Diocesan Council, Messrs. R. H. . Williams and B. Ellis. CHRISTCHURCH. The enrolling of members in the Catholic Federation (writes our Christchurch correspondent) is now occupying the spare time of the promoters. The organising committee have so far received official notification that of the twenty parishes outside the city, but seven have formed parish committees, and of these five only have sent in the names of the representatives for inclusion in the diocesan executive. Numerous difficulties exist in scattered districts to complete arrangements such as are necessary in this connection. It is hoped, however, that within a week of the appointed date (May 8) for holding the inaugural meeting to form the diocesan executive, all returns will be to hand. REMUERA. (From an occasional correspondent.) At the recent meeting for the inauguration of the Catholic Federation the following officers were elected: President, Rev. Father Doyle; vice-presidents, Messrs. T. Mahoney and J. J. Cotter; treasurer, Mr. W. J. Duggan; secretary, Mr. John Duggan; members of diocesan council, Messrs. J. Duggan and W. Wright. The. St. Vincent de Paul Society is to be represented by Messrs W. and J. Duggan, Miss L. Frost, and Miss J. Desmond. Messrs. W. Wright, J. Lineen, Mrs. Clarke, and Mrs. Duggan will represent the Sacred Heart Society; while Miss C. Jones and Miss F. Finnerty are the delegates from the Children of Mary's sodality. The parochial representatives are Messrs. Mahoney, Cotter, Hall, Desmond, Pilling, and Farrell. This committee is now making a vigorous canvass of the parish for new members for the Federation, and it is hoped that very soon every parishioner's name will appear on the roll.
