(By telegraph, from our own correspondent.) January 27. Rev. Father Holbrook has written from Sydney, where, during a two days’ stay, he had been the guest of the Right Rev. Mgr. O’Haran. His Lordship the Bishop leaves on Tuesday, January 28, on a visitation of the eastern parts of the diocese. He will be absent from Auckland for about three weeks. The retreat for ladies at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Remuera, which was conducted by Rev. Father McGrath, S.J., concluded last Saturday evening. It was most successful in every way. . A meeting of St. Patrick’s Day celebration committee was held on Monday night, Mr. Nerheny presiding. There were also present Rev. Fathers Edge, Finn,-O’Doherty, and representatives from the various parishes. General regret will be felt throughout New Zealand at the death .of Rev. Brother Charles, of the Marist which took place at the Mater Misericordise Hospital last Friday evening. He was well known in various centres of the Dominion. He was of a kindly disposition, and loved by all with whom he came in contact.R.l.P. Nine students from the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, passed the Junior Civil Service examination. K. A. Sneddon, who is not yet 16 years of age, headed the list of all pupils in the Auckland district, the others who passed were J. Russell, L. Buxton, C. Boyle, and D. Ferguson, of Auckland; 0. Dolan, Hawera; G. Coakley, Thames; J. Hally, Wellington; and F. Cody, Ohakune.
