It was a revelation as compared with the first match, when the convent scored a decided win by 15 to 8. In the second game both teams showed remarkable improvement, clearly proving what a stimulus an inter-schools match is. The game was harder, faster, and much more compact, and though Mary Strouts, one at least of the convent s ‘ crack;’ team, was absent through illness, they kept the visitors very much on the alert. Certainly their choice of a captain (Monica Page) is a very happy onethe whole team striving to emulate I, ■ ber brilliant play,' and to her no small share of the - success is due. The passing at times was really splendid, and the ball was scarcely ever fumbled, but always aimed and caught correctly. To pick out for special mention many of such an efficient team is almost impossible, but the goal-keeper (Nora Bowler) was decidedly very much in earnest over her part of the play, and the goal-shooter (Nellie McGurk) was s pln did. One especial feature of the game was the tact that not once against either team was a penalty

throw awarded for * held-ball,’ a decided advance on the former match. ; Only once was it awarded also (against. the visitors) for ‘ off-side,’ and here the convent team’s captain gained a goal by a splendid shot from the line. Again when sent into ‘ touch ’ it was immediately claimed by the right team without argument, showing that all. the players were much more alert than formerly. The game deserves, to* become popular, especially in the, large schools for girls, as besides affording splendid’ physical exercise, it gives unusual scope for emulation, judgment, and skill, and can be played by a large number of girls at once. If later on the game is taken up by other schools in the town the convent team should have a very good chance of a championship.
