(From our own correspondent.) November 17. The devotion of.-the Forty Hours’ Adoration began in St. Patrick’s Church at the close of the 11 o’clock Mass to-day, and will terminate on Tuesday morning. High Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father Segrief, of St. Patrick’s College, Rev. Father Kehoe and Rev. Father Doolaghtly being deacon and subdeacon respectively, and Rev. Father Costello master of ceremonies. A number of school children took part in the procession of the Blessed Sacrament after Mass. Rev. Father Segrief preached the occasional sermon at the evening devotions, and will also preach on Monday night. The church was crowded both morning and evening. At a meeting of the ladies of the parish on Friday last, in connection with the bazaar, it was decided to have ten stalls. The members of the ladies’ branch of the St. Vincent de Paul Society will have charge of one, and will be assisted by the men’s branch.

Hastings (From our own correspondent.) November 17. The devotion of the Forty Hours’ Adoration commenced on Sunday, November 10, with Solemn High

Mass at 10.30 o’clock. Rev. Father Martin was celebrant, Very Rev. Father Keogh deacon, and Rev. Father Mahoney subdeacon.. At the conclusion of the Mass there was a procession of the Blessed Sacrament. In the evening . Very Rev. Father Keogh preached to a large congregation. . A social gathering was held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Wednesday, 13th inst., in aid of the Sisters of St. Joseph, when the building was crowded to.the doors. The arrangements were in the capable hands of Mesdames Poppelwell,-King,, and Hughes, who left nothing undone to make the affair a success. ' Canon Garland addressed a meeting of about sixty people here on the Bible-in-schools question. ’ The greater part of his address was an attack on Catholics. He left Hastings next morning, and therefore avoided the unpleasant task of replying to objections to his remarks. A short controversy was carried on between the Very Rev. Father Keogh and the Anglican clergyman, but the latter, being unable to stand the fire from the enemy’s camp, beat a very hasty retreat.
