Gisborne
There was a large attendance at St. Mary's Hall, Gisborne, when a farewell social was tendered to Mr. and Mrs. P. Barry (who are shortly leaving Gisborne to take up their residence in Tokomaru Bay) and to Miss E. Parker (who is also leaving the district). A most enjoyable evening was spent, musical items being supplied by Mrs P Barry, Madame Gleave, l Mrs. D. Parker, and Mr. Kade. A plentiful supply of refreshments was provided and a euchre tournament held the prizes in which were won by Miss Petersen and Mr! S. Liddle. At an appropriate interval in the proceedings Mr H. J. Alley, on behalf of the H.A.C.B. Society, presented Mr. P. Barry with a handsome travelling portmanteau and dressing case. ' Rev. Father Carran responded on behalf of Mr. Barry, who is indisposed. Rev. Father Lane, in a few well-chosen remarks, on behalf of the Catholics of Gisborne, presented Mrs. P. Barry with a beautiful arm-chair, and on behalf of the choir with a silver toast rack. ' Mr. Jas. Doyle suitably responded on behalf of Mrs. Barry' Rev. Father Lane, in another happy speech, then pre! sented Miss E. Parker, on behalf of the Children of
Mary, with a silver cakedish, and on behalf of the choir with a set of carvers; Rev. Father Car ran suitably responded. Miss .Neill played the accompaniments acceptably during the evening. .
