Timaru

(From our own correspondent.) > October 22. The bazaar in aid of the new church will open in the Olympia on Tuesday next, 29 th inst. .Preparations are now well forward for the great event, and in point of tasteful decorations, quality of artistic objects, and useful articles to be disposed of, and the excellence of the entertainment to be provided, this fete promises to eclipse all its predecessors. Signor Borzoni has got his performers well in hand, and tne tug-of-war tournament for the championship of South Canterbury will also be a great draw. .On Thursday evening last Mrs. J. Skinner gave a ' gift evening ' in Caldwell's Tea Rooms, in aid of Mrs. Ardagh's stall. The hostess' invitations met with a cordial response, and a large number of handsome presents was the result. A choice programme was contributed to by Mrs. Lynch, Misses Wallace and Brennan, and Messrs. Bryce and D. Kennat. Miss E. Spring gave much appreciated piano solos, and Mrs. Mangos artistically accompanied the singers. The bazaar will last a fortnight, and the Catholics of Timaru will be pleased to see visitors from neighboring and even distant parishes at the fete.
