The new Church of St. Canute at Streaky Bay, West Coast, was blessed and opened recently by his Lordship the Bishop of Port Augusta, assisted by Rev. Fathers Jeorgensen and Kelly. A handsome new building in place of the old Monte Oliveto Convent, Woollhra, was opened by the Archbishop of Sydney on Sunday, September 8. There was a large gathering, and the subscriptions at the ceremony amounted to close on £SOO. The will of the Right Rev. Dr. James Francis Corbett, Bishop of Sale, who died on May 28, has been lodged for probate. The testator left personal property valued at £1337, and after providing £SO for Masses and £IOO to the Convent of the Good Shepherd, Abbotsford, bequeathed everything for the use of his successor. By the death of Mr. John Kenny, father of Dr. A. L. Kenny, C.S., K.S.G., Rev. J. Kenny (of South Yarra), and Mr, J J. Kenny, Victoria has lost one of its most highly respected and pioneer settlers. The late Mr, Kenny was born at Fort Brown, County Galway, Ireland, on April 2. 1836, and was therefore in his 77th year at the time of his death. L. Bowditch and J. E. Batchelor vice-presidents, Mr. R. A. Warming hon. treasurer, and Messrs. W. L. Murrells, L. Egan, and J. Cantwell assistant secretaries. His Lordship Dr. Higgins, Bishop of Ballarat, has received a cable message from Ireland, stating that Rev. Father Shiel, Administrator of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ballarat, who is an inmate of Mater Misericordige Hospital, Dublin, suffering from typhoid fever, is progressing favorably. The crisis of the fever has not yet been reached, but as Father Shiel is of robust constitution it is expected that he will make a good recovery. It appears that he contracted the disease while -travelling from China to America. He visited the first-named country for the purpose of seeing his sister, who is a nun in one of the convents at Shanghai.
