Palmerston North

(From our own correspondent.) August 25. The progressive euchre tournament and social, under the auspices of the Children of Mary and the ladies of the Altar Society on Wednesday last, were a pronounced success. The Zealandia Hall was well filled. Mr. Cimino’s lyric orchestra and Mr. J. Small supplied the music for the occasion, the whole bein<* under the immediate supervision of Mr. C. McGrath! A supper was provided by the ladies. A most enjoy! able evening was spent, and will result in a profit of about £2O. Rev. Father Costelloe announced on Sunday that a three weeks’ mission by the Redemptorist Fathers would commence in the parish on October 1. Owing to the very large number bf Catholics in the parish it has been decided to devote the first ten days of the mission to women, and the remainder to men. Special services will be held for children.
