Pahiatua

The annual Catholic social gathering was held in the Drill Hall on Wednesday evening, May 8. Visitors (says the local Herald) were present from all parts of the district. . During the evening vocal and other items were contributed by the following ladies and gentlemen:—Miss Tulloch, .Miss May', Miss Vincent, Miss McGrath, Mrs. O’Connor, and Messrs. L. Hill, C. Mills, and J. Walls. The supper provided by the ladies of the congregation was a very bountiful one. At an interval the Rev. Father McKenna addressed the assemblage. He returned thanks to the public for their generous patronage, to the contributors to the musical programme, and to others who had given their services, The hon. secretary, Mrs. E. Sullivan, was largely instrumental in furthering the success of the gathering. The ladies’ committee comprised the following: Misses aPopplewell, Quirk, Moynahan, Mesdames L Hill O’Rourke, .W. Kelly, and E. Sullivan. Prominent amongst the gentlemen who rendered assistance were Messrs D. O’Rourke, J. Beech, B. Doyle, T. O’Brien P. Ryan, J. Swiggs, and W. Sullivan.
