Butter. —Market firm; good demand for all descriptions; prices advancing. Choicest New Zealand, 113 s; Australian, 108 s; Danish, 120 s; Siberian, 109 s; Argentine, 107 s. ; / Cheese. Market firm; good demand; stocks moderate. New Zealand white, 72s 6d ; colored/ 73s fid. Hemp.—Market quiet; juices slightly weaker. Spot New Zealand good fair grade, £2l 15s; fair grade, £2O 10s; forward shipment at same prices: spot failcurrent Manila, £22 ; forward shipment, £22 10s.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co. report as follows; We held our weekly-auction sale of grain and produce on Monday, when we submitted a representative catalogue to the usual attendance of buyers. Oats.— The market has been irregular during the past week, with a fair inquiry towards the beginning of the week, which faded out during the last few days, and buyers are not as keen as they were during the previous week. There is a good demand locally for all lines of good feed oats, while any lines of extra bright and heavy are being picked up for seed poses. Prime milling, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; good to best feed, 2s 2ld to 2s 3d; light and discolored, 2s to 2s Id per bushel (sacks extra). - Wheat. —Despite the fact that the market remains quiet at Home and abroad, the local market is firm at late quotations, millers picking up all lines of goodconditioned wheat at prices fully equal to late ruling rates, howl feed is very scarce, and buyers are having difficulty in procuring lines to fill orders for shipment.. Prime milling velvet, 3s lid to 4s; prime milling red wheats, 3s lOd to 3s lid; medium milling, 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel (sacks extra). Potatoes.- During the past week heavy consignments have come to hand, and the market remains fully supplied. , Buyers are not ’ operating so freely Awing, no doubt, to the fact that deliveries of purchases made , some time ago are now coming to hand, and in the absence of inquiry from the North"lsland the market shows an easier tendency. Messrs. Stronach, Morris, and Co., Ltd., report for week ended Tuesday, May 21,> 1912, as follows: Oats.—There is good demand for export and prices remain firm at last week’s rates. . Cartons and Sparrowbills are mostly in demand. Medium and inferior lots are readily placed locally. Quotations: Prime milling, 2s 31 d to 2s 4d ; good to best feed, 2s 3d to 2s ,31-d; medium, 2s to 2s 2d per bushel'(sacks extra). ■’ Wheat. —There is good demand for prime milling lots. The majority of the south; wheat -is only .fit for fowl feed, which is in strong demand. Quotations : Prime milling, 3s lOd to 3s lid velvet, to 4k; medium to good, 3s 8d to 3s 9d ; best whole fowl wheat, 3s. 6d to 3s 7d ; medium, 3s 4d to 3s 5d ; broken-and damaged, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel (sacks extra). ’ ; ' Potatoes.— The market has. quietened , down . considerably owing to the difficulty in landing shipments in Australia ; best lines are bringing from ' £5 5s to £5 10s per ton locally; medium to good, £4 10s to £5 per ton (bags in). - V;

A large number of the southern samples coming to hand are in doubtful condition, and these are barely good enough to supply millers’ requirements, and are being chiefly taken to supply fowl-feed m tiers. There is strong inquiry for fowl wheat, best having most attention. Prime milling, 3s 10d to 3s lid: choice velvet, to 4s; medium to good", 3s 8d to 3s 9cl; best whole fowl wheat, 3s 6d to 3s 7d •- medium, 3s 4d to 3s 5d ; broken and damaged, 3s to 3s 3d per bushel (sacks extra). " Potatoes.- The market is quiet. The difficulty in connection with shipments to Australia is the chief cause of the slackening in the demand. .. Durinv the week a few sales of good lines (guaranteed by the growers free from disease) have been made at £5 10s per ton on -trucks at country stations, but to-day it is impossible to effect sales at this price. Consignments are selling locally at £5 5s to £5 10s per i ton, , bags included, for best quality. & Chaff.
