(From our own correspondent.) ‘ The first euchre tournament of the season will be held on the second Wednesday in May. The Rev. Father Clancy has called a general meeting of the parishioners for the third Sunday in May, to consider the advisability of erecting a new church. The present edifice has done good service, and various parts -of it are in much need of repair, which, in the opinion of some of the older parishioners, proves the necessity .for the erection of a new church. If the meeting decides in favor of building a new church, it is to be of brick, the estimated cost of which is £SOOO. Two parishioners, whose names were not revealed, have promised between them a subscription of £7OO. Y ; The usual ■weekly, meeting of St. Mary’s Club was held on last Thursday evening, the attendance at which was good. “ Mr. P. Breeze presided. The programme for the evening was a debate— That devolution tends to the disintegration of the Empire.’ Messrs. G. Wormington, H. Williams, M. Hanrahan, and J. Cahill spoke in the affirmative, and Messrs. N. Warren, J. Hanrahan, L. Dwan, and D. .Pooling took the negative side. , After an interesting and keenly-con-tested debate the judges decided in favor of the affirmative. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close. ■ " -
