WELLINGTON CATHOLIC CLUB
(From the club correspondent.) October 25. ■ The cricket club have commenced the season very successfully, having entered two teams for the junior and*, third class championship under the Cricket Association. The junior team opened by playing a match against Wellington South. This match is not yet finished, but the club has a very substantial lead. The best scores so far are Knapp 60, Sheehan 25, and Toms 25. ' The third class team were successful in defeating Victoria. College by 6 runs. The scores were as follow: Victoria College 102, Catholic Club 108. The best club scores were: Carruthers 26, Cameron 23, Lay burn 22 (not out), and .Bradley 21. The best bowlers for the club were McGrath (who secured 5 wickets for 29 runs) and Carruthers (who secured 4 for 33). ■ 4 The opening of the club’s tennis court took place on Saturday afternoon. The weather conditions were perfect, and there was a large attendance of players and their friends. The courts were opened bv the Rev. Father Venning. Afternoon tea was served in a marquee erected on the lawn and the tables were effectively decorated. During the afternoon musical items were contributed by Misses N. O’Connor, Guise, Fauna, and Mr, Potts. Miss Packer acted as accompanist. Great credit is due to the secretary, Mr. Frank Eller, and his energetic committee.
