WEDDING BELLS
(From an occasional correspondent.) O’CONNELL— A quiet wedding took place at St. Mary of the Angels’ Church, Wellington, on August 31, the contracting parties being Mr. Roderick O’Connell, of Castle Island, County Kerry, Ireland, and Miss Ellen Keeney, youngest daughter of the late Hugh Keeney, of Drumshambo, County Leitrim, Ireland. The bride, who was given away by Mr. James Quinn, was attired in a dregs of cream silk lustre, trimmed with old Irish lace, and wore a cream Leghorn hat with white plumes, and carried an ivory-bound prayer book with streamers of white silk ribbon. The bridesmaids were Miss Imelda Keeney (Invercargill), niece of the bride, and Miss Elizabeth Lavery. - The bridegroom’s gift to the bride was a diamond and ruby brooch and to the bridesmaids gold shamrock brooches. The bride’s gift to the bridegroom was a silver-mounted walking stick,
suitably, inscribed. Mr. W. B. Keeney acted as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s sister, Mrs. J. McWilliams, Webb street, where'a few immediate friends partook of the wedding breakfast, which was presided over by the Rev. Father Yenning who, in a happy speech, proposed the toast of the newly-married couple, I and eulogised the many good qualities of the bride, whom he said he had known for the past six years. The bride’s travelling dress was a bronze green tailor-made costume, and brown toque with pink roses. The wedding presents were numerous and useful, including several cheques from various parts of the Dominion. The happy couple left by the Auckland express for their future home, Aria, Te Kuiti, taking with them the best wishes of their many friends.
