(From our own correspondent.) October 24. . The devotion of the Forty Hours’ Adoration, began in St. Mary Church on Sunday, the 22nd inst., at 10.30 o’clock with Solemn High Mass. Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M. (Provincial), who came to Wanganui especially to assist at the ceremonies, was celebrant, Rev. Father Holley deacon, and Rev. Father Moloney subdeacon. _ At the conclusion of the Mass there was a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, all the parish confraternities and societies taking part. In the evening after Vespers Very Rev. Dean Regnault preached an impressive sermon on the Sacrifice of the Mass. On Monday there were Masses at 6, 6,30, and at 8 o clock. In the evening Dean Regnault preached on frequent Holy Communion. , On - the concluding day, Tuesday, Masses were celebrated at 6, 6.30^ o’clock, and a Solemn High Mass at 8 o’clock. Rev! Father Moloney was celebrant, v ßev. Father Holley deacon, and Very Rev. Dean Regnault subdeacon. A procession of the Blessed Sacrament concluded the devotions. It is estimated that nearly 1800 persons received Holy Communion during the Adoration, 600 confessions being heard. The choir, under Mr. W. Holden, who is now conductor after an absence of several years, rendered the music of the Masses very efficiently, Mr. Towsey presided at the organ. The annual examinations of the schools conducted by the Sisters of St. Joseph were held by the inspectors •of the Education ‘ Department on the 18th inst. St. Joseph’s School, Wanganui, was examined by Mr. Strong, and that of the Holy Infancy, Aramoho, by Mr. Milne. The Marist Brothers’ School was examined by Messrs. Strong and Milne on the 23rd inst.
