ARCHDIOCESE OP WELLINGTON (From our own correspondent.) - October 7. A successful euchre party took place on last Tuesday evening at St. Anne’s Hall, Wellington South. Much credit is due to the ladies of the Altar Society,' under whose auspices the function was held. The proceeds will be devoted to the fund for the adornment of the altar. There are at present on view at the warehouse of Messrs. Smith and Smith two stained glass memorial windows, executed to the order of the Notre Dame des Missions Convent, Petone. The central figure in the first window is representative of St. Teresa. In the second window the figure of St. Cecilia is depicted. The fortnightly meeting of St. Aloysius’ branch of the H.A.C.B. Society was held on Monday at the Hibernian Hall, Wellington South, Bro. C. McErlean presiding over a large attendance. After business was transacted, a social evening was held, when members from the Druids’ lodges attended on invitation, and took part in a euchre tournament. Last Friday evening being the first Friday of the month, the Women’s Confraternities of the Sacred Heart met at the Sacred Heart Basilica (Thorndon), St. Joseph’s (Te Aro), and St. Anne’s (Wellington South). There were large attendances at each meeting. Rev. Father Peoples, S.M., preached at the Basilica, Rev. Father Herring, S.M., at St. Joseph’s, and Rev. Father Mahony at St. Anne’s. •. The Wellington branch of the Newman Society met last Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Father Bartley, S.M., M.A., presiding. Two very interesting papers were read by by Messrs. M. J. Crombie and M. Duflou. The former took for his subject ‘ Some extracts from Newman’s works,’ and the latter, ‘ls religion opposed to science or art?’ . There was a discussion on both papers and both contributors were accorded a hearty vote of thanks; The last of the social gatherings in connection with the Thorndon parish was held in the Sydney street schoolroom last Wednesday evening, and proved a great success. A musical programme was contributed to by Mr. Sommerville and the choir of St. Mary of the Angels’ Church, under the conductorship of Mr. E. J. Healey. Supper was provided by a committee consisting of Mesdames Sommerville, McKeown, Snodgrass, Sievers, Walsh, and Lamble, Misses Tiller, Putnam, Duggan, and Prendeville. The Sacred Heart branch of the Hibernian Society at Petone celebrated the first anniversary of its opening by a social evening at which the representatives from the Hutt, City, Wellington South, Thorndon, and ladies’ branches were present. The Petone branch has, during the course of the year, held several socials in order to augment the funds. The membership is gradually forging ahead. A most enjoyable evening was r spent by the visitors. The Petone members with their energetic secretary (Bro. J. Linehan) spared no pains in order to make the evening as pleasant as possible.^Last Sunday, being the Feast of the Holy Rosary, special devotions were held at St. Anne’s, Wellington Souths that being the church at which the Archconfraternity of the Holy Rosary was recently cannonically erected. It was a most edifying sight to see the large number of persons who approached the Holy Table, and also the large number who visited the church in the afternoon. The devotions were brought to a close in the evening, the church being thronged when the Rev. Father Bartley, S.M., M.A., of St. Patrick’s College, addressed the congregation on the Holy Rosary, and he exhorted them to have great devotion to the Blessed Virgin by observing the conditions of the Archconfraternity of the Rosary. After the sermon some 100 new members were enrolled in the Confraternity, bringing the number of members up to

1000. The devotions concluded with a procession in honor of the Blessed Virgin,, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
