Marist Bros. 'Old Boys' and Catholic Men’s Club, Auckland.
(From the club correspondent.) There was a good attendance at the usual weekly meeting of the literary and debating branch" on June 19, when the evening was devoted to a mock parliamentary election. The candidates for election were Messrs. McKenna, Dwyer,Carroll, Mulholland, Adeane, and McDevitt, all of whom gave very creditable .addresses, I regret to have to record that the Rev. Brother Fergus, who takes a very prominent interest in all branches of the club and particularly the debating branch, was unfortunately the victim of a cycling mishap whereby he sustained a badly sprained ankle and injured knee. We are pleased to . know, however, that he is making a satisfactory recovery. The football branch has not been quite so. successful .as earlier in the season. But before 'the competitions are finished we expect to see some more good performances. Much interest was displayed in- the billiard tournament that has just been played off, the winner being Mr. A. Lees.. Another tournament is now in progress,’ and the competition is keen for the handsome cue that constitutes the prize. V • ■ .
