Palmerston North
——— f (From our own correspondent.) On Sunday last the women's branch of the Sacred Heart Society approached the Holy Table in unusually large numbers at the 7.30 o'clock Mass . There was Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from the 11 o'clock Mass until the evening devotions, after which there was the usual procession. At the usual weekly' meeting of the St. Vincent de Paul Society on Thursday last, a letter was read from the late president (Bro. J. O'Donovan), now at Invercargill, nominating, according to custom, Bro. F. Oakley as the president of the Conference. I need hardly add that the selection was.a most suitable one and met with the hearty and unanimous approval of the Conference. t At a meeting of the combined committee who have in hand the national concert and the parish picnic, which met after Benediction to-day, everything was reported to be in a most forward state. The concert will be held in the Opera House on St. Patrick's night, and the picnic will be bed on the following Wednesday, and will take place at the seaside resort of Paekakariki. Each child attending the parish school will be taken free on the train and adults at a considerably reduced fare. The Rev' Bathers Costello, Quealey, and Dore will be present, and with the existing weather conditions a red-letter day is assured. J Napier jFrom our own correspondent.)
