killed, and Mrs .Phelan, another friend of the deceased, accompanied the body to the, coast. The late Miss Power was a sister of Mr. John Power, solicitor, of Feilding. The manner in which the members of St. Anne's Cadets acquitted themselves whilst in camp at Seatoun in extinguishing some grass fires which threatened several dwellings in the locality, and the dearth of ambulance material when one of their number met with an accident, have been commented upon by correspondents in the local press, who complimented the boys, and suggested that the public contribute towards furnishing the company with a medicine chest. As a result the sum of £2 13s 6d has been raised by Mr. C. Miller. Further donations are required, and any balance remaining will be given as a donation towards the funds of the club. A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, Buckle street, on February 18, when Mr. Thomas Collerton, of the Defence Office, was united in the bonds of Matrimony to Miss Ethel Maud Gardiner, eldest daughter of Captain Gardiner. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Father Hurley, S.M. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a 'handsome gown -of white charmeuse satin, with pearl and sequin trimmings, veil and orange blossoms. She was attended by her sisters, the Misses Eileen and Alice Gardiner, Miss Nellie Collerton (sister of the bridegroom), Miss Mackey, and little Miss Marjorie Morton. Mr. P. W. Gough acted as best man, and the groomsmen were Messrs. Fred. Gardiner (brother of the bride) and J Price. After the marriage ceremony a reception was held by Captain and Mrs Gardiner at the Hotel Windsor, at which some eighty guests were present. Mr. and Mrs. Collerton left on the honeymoon trip for Palmerston North. Another of Wellington's early settlers passed away on February 22, at his residence, Lancaster street,„ Karori, in the person of Mr. Wm. Feeney. The late Mr. Feeney was born sixty years ago in County Meath, Ireland, and came to New Zealand when quite a young man. He joined the Armed Constabulary, and was stationed at Opunake during the troublous Maori war times. On receiving his discharge from the Constabulary, Mr. Feeney took up his residence in Wellington, and has lived here continuously ever since. He was one of the oldest members of the Hibernian Society, having joined soon after the society was established in Wellington. Mrs. Feeney predeceased her husband some five years ago. Four sons and two daughters survive him, the eldest son being Mr. W. J. Feeney, of the Thorndon Railway Station, and president of the Hibernian Society. The interment took place on February 24, the members of the Hibernian Society being present in regalia. The Rev. Father Peoples officiated at the graveside. —R.l.P. There was a good attendance of members at the twentyfifth half-yearly meeting of the Wellington Catholic Club on February 23. Mr. A. H. Casey presided. The annual report, which was adopted, stated that the cricket club was leading in the third-grade competition, having won 17 out of 18 games played. The balance-sheet showed a substantial credit balance. The chairman announced that the new club premises would be in course of construction within the next six months. The following officers ware elected for the ensuing half-year: — Patron, his Grace Archbishop Redwood; president, Very Rev. Father O'Shea, S.M., V.G.; vice-presidents —Very Rev. Dean Regnault, S.M. The arrangements in connection with the forthcoming carnival, to be held in the Town Hall, Wellington, at Easter in aid of the Northland school-chapel are being pushed forward with much energy. A delightful garden party, to provide for the furnishing of the Northland stalls was held at Mrs. Putnam's, Northland, on February 18' The weather was all that could be desired, and the gardens which were, bright with flowers and bunting, were crowded with a happy throng. During the afternoon short concerts were held in the drawing-room and the tea kiosk under the. efficient management of Mrs. McNamara, did a brisk business. Competitions and music kept the adults busy, while the bran-tub and the ginger-pop and sweets stalls provided for the needs of the children The Misses Putnam superintended the produce, sweets and flower stalls, the fancv stall being under the control of Mesdames Ross and McKeown. The concert items were contributed by Mrs Costelloe (nee Blanev), the.- Misses Denhard and Siegrief Messrs. Ciraino, Feilding, Hickmott, Macdonald, Sievers, Smith, and Master Fergus Reeves whose naive recitations were verv well received Prepara' tions for the fancy dancing at the carnival are now beinnrapidly made. Signor Borzoni has been engaged to supervise this part of the programme, and a strong amusements committee, which has been set tip, will attend to the competitions, music, and side-shows. A large orchestra has T '■■''.....'"■

been retained and the management will strive to provide only first class music. The sale of tickets is quite satisfactory, and, judging from the enthusiasm of the stallholders and the management committee, the success of the undertaking should be assured.
