Hawera

(From our own correspondent.)

Miss M. Dolan has gone to the Hill Street Convent, "Wellington, to further her. musical studies.

Five, boys from the parish are going to the Sacred Heart College in Auckland this week, amongst the number being Masters B. Gallagher and O'Dolan.

It was mentioned to me that the Very Rev. Father Power, who was a, class fellow of the Right Rev. Dr. Chine, will proceed to Western Australia for the Consecration of the Bishop-elect. Last evening after devotions, a meeting of the men of the .parish was held in connection with the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. After considerable discussion those present formed themselves into a committee, with Mr. E. Cullinan as chairman. It was also decided that the proceeds of such celebration should be devoted to educational matters in the parish.

On Sunday, February 26, Rev. Father Venning, of Wellington is to visit Hawera to form a branch of St. Vincent de Paul Society, and with the object of creating an interest in the matter, Very Rev. Father Power, on the past two Sunday evenings, described in detail the objects and workings of the society.

The newly-formed choir in the parish, under Mr. Hyham, is making good progress, and very keen interest is being shown by the members. Miss W. Connell is organist in the morning and Miss D. icily in the evening, and at the last practice Messrs. Hyham and Hooker were elected treasurer and secretary respectively.
