JFrom our own correspondent.) December 19. The Children of Mary held a most successful garden party in the priory grounds recently. The weather was not favorable for the afternoon's attendance .but a fair number were present, and good business was done at the many nicely decorated stalls. A number of races and competitions for the children were got off during the afternoon, and all heartily entered into the fun provided. In the evening the elements were more propitious, and the splendidly lighted lawn was well occupied. A judiciously arranged programme was excellently rendered by the following : —Mesdames Lynch, Skinner, Rennell, the Misses M. and Z. Venning, and Messrs. B. Rennell and Moore. An excellent amateur orchestra also contributed items "both in the afternoon and evening. The members were Miss M. Venning (piano), Misses Z. Venning and Dennehy, Messrs. J. Rennie and Fyfe (violins), Bevan (trombone), M. Mara (cornet), Ryan (side-drum), E. Howden (flute), Tait (bassoon), and Byford (bass violin). The Garrison Band also attended in the evening and gave some particularly enjoyable items. Miss Mary Venning is to be credited with the success of the concert, as she arranged for the artists, and also played with taste the accompaniments. The net proceeds amounted to about £4O, and will be devoted to the Children of Mary's side altar in the new church. Miss M. Mara, the hard-working secretary, is to be congratulated on the success of her labors, and also the general committee, consisting of the Misses Donovan, Rissel, Knight, M. Ward, McGrath, Kane, Sugrue, Bruce, Atkinson, and Doyle.
