Wanganui • —— IFrom our own correspondent.)

I am pleased to report that Mr. Chas. McCarthy, jun., who underwent a serious operation in the hospital here, is progressing favorably.

The Wanganui Conference of the St. Vincent de Paul Society has undertaken the work of establishing a Sunday school at Castlecliff, and now Messrs. J. McLaughlin and G. J. Fama journey there and instruct a class of from 10 to 20 children every Sunday. It is . also intended I understand, to have Mass celebrated at Castlecliff at least once a month. The St. Vincent de Paul Society has now fourteen cases on their books, and the work of selling Catholic Truth Society’s pamphlets is going on satisfactorily, the average weekly sale being 60. Rev. Father Ainsworth, of' Hokitika, was, present at the last meeting l of the society • and gave some good advice and encouragement to the members. •
