(From an occasional correspondent.) The bazaar entitled the Empire Fair, in aid of the funds of the new church grounds and convent in Gore, was opened in the Dominion Hall on Monday, June 27, and continued until the following Saturday night. Excellent business was done during the week, making the affair an unqualified success. A most effective display of goods was made on the various stalls. No. 1 stall was presided over by Mrs. Poppelwell, assisted by Mesdames Kelly and R. Green and the Misses Hannefy (3), Martin (3), Leonard, McLaughlin, and O'Brien; No. 2, Mrs. Leahy, assisted by Mesdames Henderson and Duggan, and the Misses Fraser, Smith, Wallis, Condon, O'Kane, Reid, Ryan, Hamilton, Daly, and Broadbent; No. 3, Misses Holland and Coneys, assisted by Misses Egan (2), Burke, Sheehy, Leen, McKenzie, Stevenson, De Terte, Whelan, Sweeney, Reid, Domigan, Monoghan, Fitzgerald; produce stall, Mesdames Quirke, Holland, and Henderson, assisted by Misses Duggan, Costelloe, Monoghan, Ryan, Wingham (2), and Sullivan; sweets stall, Miss Ford, assisted by. Misses Preece (2), D. Holland, and M. Johnston.; doll stall, Miss Lawlor, assisted by Misses M. Preece, O'Kane, M. Lawlor, Smith, Martin, Johnston, and McGrath; refreshment stall, Mesdames Hanly, Flanagan, Richards, assisted by Misses Ferris (2), Lynch, Hoffman, Robertson (2), McMullan, Duggan.

.There were besides several side-shows that were well patronised during the bazaar. The art union in connection with the fair was drawn on Friday, July 16, in the Town Hall, uoie, in the presence of his Worship the Mayor (Mr. D. L. Jroppelwell) and a number of prominent citizens. Previous to the drawing a short concert was given, the following contributing items:—Misses O’Brien, Leonard, and Hannefy and Messrs. E. Smith, A. R. Watson, and 11. L. bJinstie. the ■winning numbers are published in the advertising columns of this issue of the N.Z. Tablet. After the prize-drawing had taken place the Very Rev. Father U Donnell thanked a h those who had helped in any way to +i ++i ' 0 aazaar a ?d art union a success, and announced that the gross receipts amounted to over £B2O. This sum would not only clear off the old debt, but would leave a substantial sum that would be the beginning of a fund towards the erection of a new church. The dances and amusements of the bazaar were under the management of Mr. J. L. Lowe, of Invercargill, and added much to the enhvenment of the proceedings during the week.
