Wanganui

(From our own correspondent.) • In asking the prayers of the congregation at St.' Mary’s Church, Wanganui, on Sunday, February 27, for the repose of the soul of the late Bishop Lenihan, Rev. Father Moloney paid a eulogistic tribute to the dead prelate. He spoke of him as a great Bishop, who ruled his diocese with great success ; as a man who was universally respected and esteemed by all denominations; one who took an 5 active interest in all movements that made for the betterment of the people, the relief of the poor, and the housing of orphans. To all deserving cases he gave not only the patronage of his position and the advocacy of his eloquence, but liberal contributions in money whenever a demand was made by members of his own people or those of 'other denominations. In Auckland he was deservedly popular with : all . classes whose good opinions he had won by. his simplicity of manner, his unfailing urbanity, his genial nature, his open hospitality, his soothing sympathy for the sorrowing, and his ever-ready assistance to the friendless and 1 the poor.
