St. Patrick’s College Scholarships

Two scholarships, donated by Mr. Martin Kennedy, of Wellington, each of the value of £2O a year, tenable for four years, are offered for competition in the December of each year to Catholic boys attending the parochial schools of the Dominion ; and one scholarship, donated by the late Mr. Leary, of Blenheim, of the value of £25 a year, tenable for three years, is offered every three years for competition to boys attending the parochial schools of the Province of Marlborough. The names of the winners of these scholarships for the present year were published in our last issue.

Examination papers were set in catechism, English, geography, and arithmetic, the total number of possible marks being 1000. The following are the aggregates obtained by the candidates arranged in order of merit; Kennedy Scholarships. No. 30, William Craighead, Waimate, 855, 1; No. 38, Michael O’Meeghan, Timaru, 687, and No. 47, Desmond O’Sullivan, Wellington, 687 (equal), 2; No. 43, 682; No. 44, 642; No. 33, 584 j\ No. 46, 566; No. 45, 565; No. 40, 544; No. 41, 544; No. 34, 625; No. 42, 506; No. 36, 485; No. 37, 481; No. 35, 336. O’Leary Scholarship. No. 50, Mervyn Augustine Miles, Blenheim, 602; No. 49, 441; No. 48, 335. As Michael O’Meeghan and Desmond O’Sullivan oh-, tained the same aggregate of marks, a scholarship of £2O a year, tenable for four years, has been awarded to each, as well as to William Craighead. : v
