Grey mouth

(From Our Own Correspondent.) September 10. A meeting of parishioners was held in St. Patrick's Cliurch last Sunday after evening devotions for the purpose of forming a church committee. The Very Rev. Dean Carew presided, and the following gentlemen were elected: Messrs. P. M. Griff en, J. Higgins, E. A. Burke, T. P.' Fogarty, P. Deere, E. M. Sheedy, P. Blanchfield, A. F. O'Donoghue (secretary), R. C. Heffernan, P. J. Smyth, R. E. Bellamy, M. Quinlan, and W. Sullivan. On last Sunday morning at the eight o'clock Mass the members of the St. Columba "Club and Hibernian Society approached the Holy Table in a body. The members of both societies, to the number of 120, marched in regalia from the club rooms to the church. It was a most edifying sight to see such a large number of men going to Holy Communion. After Mass the members of both societies re-formed in procession and marched from St. Patrick's Church to the St. Columba Club rooms, where the ladies had provided breakfast. Mr. R. C. Heffernan (president of the club) occupied the chair, and Mr. T. P. Fogarty (president of the H.A.C.B. Society) was in the vice-chair. The chairman congratulated the members of both societies on turning out in such large numbers, thus making public profession of their faith. The vice-chairman also congratulated members and urged the Catholic young men of Greymoiith to j join one or both the societies, which had done so much for the faith in their midst. On the motion of Mr. E. Casey a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the ladies who had so kindly provided breakfast. Mr. P. J. Smyth suitably responded on behalf of the ladies. Last Sunday morning the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was offered up at St. Patrick's Church for the souls of deceased members of the affiliated Catholic Clubs of New Zealand at the request of the members of St. Columba Club. . The half-yearly general meeting of the St. Columba Club was held in the club rooms last Monday evening. The president (Mr. R. C. Heffernan) occupied the' chair, and there was "a large attendance of members. It was decided that the bazaar should be held on November. 3, 4, and 5. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted, and showed the finances of the club to be in a flourishing state. The balance of assets over liabilities amounted to £551 4s lid, and there was a cash credit balance for the half-year of £33 11s lOd, which was considered most satisfactory. The following teams have been chosen to represent the St. Columba Club in the elocutionary competitions to be held in the Town Hall on October 7 -and 8: Prepared speeches — Messrs. E. Casey, T. M.
