MR. P. HOGAN, TE AROHA.
(From our travelling correspondent.)
There passed away last week one of the best know a and respected residents of the Waihi goldfields district in the person of Mr. P. Hogan. The deceased was a native of County Waterford, Ireland, and came to New Zealand in the early days, settling down in Waihi as a mining contractor. From there he went to Te Aroha, where he purchased the well-known coaching business with which his name has become familiar, and which he carried on until his demise. Mr. Hogan had always taken a great interest in public affairs, and his name was invariably associated with any movements which tended towards the progress of the district. The deceased died fortified by the last rites of- the Church of which he was a devoted member. The funeral was the largest ever seen in Te Aroha. The burial service at the graveside was read by the Rev Fathor McGuinness, assisted by the Very Rev. Dean Haekett, and the Very Rev. Father Brodie. Dean Hackett, in the course of a brief address, bore testimony to the exemplary life of the deceased. As a Catholic (he said) the late' Mr. Hogan was always in the forefront of any movement for the good of the Church, and his kindly and practical sympathy was never wanting in any charitable cause. — R,I.P. •
