Hibernian Society
The annual meeting of the New Zealand District of" the H.A.U.B. Society (writes our Auckland correspondent), was held in the Hibernian Hall, .Wellington! St., on Wednesday, February 26, Bro. The following was the report on the funds -.—Funeral Fund— Funeral claims paid, £376 ; credit balance, £6530 4s 9d ; increase over balance last audit, .£64 7s 2d. General Fund— Credit balance, £314 19s 8d ; increase over 'balance, last audit, £68 9s Bd. Guarantee FundCredit balance, £292 12s lOd. -
It was reported that a new branch had been opened during the past year at Invercareill by Bro. Marlow, District Deputy, assisted by Rev. Father Delany, with a membership of 84.
The following motion was moved by the. delegate from St. Canice's branch : ' That,, in order to increase the spiritual benefits of the Society, a new clause, to be numbered 4, be added to Rule 70, page 53, viz., " That members of the Hibernian- Australasian Catholic Benefit Society approach Holy -Communion on -a certain Sunday in each year — the date to be fixed by the D.B. at the annual meeting — and Ihat such Mass be offered up for the souls of members., who— departed this life." ' After a most interesting discussion, the motion was unanimously carried. The Sunday before St. Patrick's Day was fixed as the rreneral Communion day for the Hibernian. Society throughout the Dominion.
The following motions were also carried :— ' That a sum of two guineas be given by the District to any member of the Ne"w Zealand District of the HibernianAustralasian Catholic Benefit Society who obtains" the rreatest number of new members during 'the year, and who are financial at the end of 1908,' and ' That In view of the large amount of work to be done by the district secretary, the sal-iry of the holder of that office be 'increased from £70 to £100 pcr x annum. 1 T.he o^crrs elected for the ensuane'' term were: Bro.
