(From our own correspondent.) February 10. Ihcre was a large assemblage of the people of Ak-' aroa in the Borough Council Chambers on last Thursday afternoon at a farewell ga-lfoering, when the Rev. Dr. Kennedy, who is relinquishing pastoral charge of Akaroa and Little River Districts, ,was presented with' an illuminated address. The Rev.' Father McManus, of New Plymouth, is - at present a \isitor to Christohurch,. and on Sunday assisted at the Cathedral. The Rev. Father McDonnell, parish priest of Meanee, has taken the plaoe of Rev. Father Hoare at St. Mary's, Manchester- street, the latter being away on a brief holiday. The devastating ifire of Thursday night, which ruined the finest 'business centre of the city, and gutted twothirds of the frontage of a block .occupied by splendid mercantile premises, wias a sight of awe-inspiring grandeur. Archpriest Le Menant .des Chesnais, S.M., of Leeston is appointed parish "pifiest of Temuka, replacing Rev. Father 4 James Goggan, S.M., who is appointed' pastor of Napier. Ihe Rer. Father S. Mahony, also of Lee^ton, goes to Wellington. Rev. Father Hills, S.M., late Vice-Hector of St. Patrick's College, is appointed parish priest of Leeston. Rev. Father Ainsworth, from Wellington South, is appointed parish priest of Hokitika. Rev. Father 0 Dwyer, now at Ho»:itilca, replaces Rev. Father Lepretre at Wairoa ,(Hawke's--Bay), the latter going to Europe on holiday leave. Rev. Father Finnerty goes to Wellington from Timaru, and is replaced by Father A. McDonald, of Wellington. The Rev. Father O'Connell, S.M., of the Cathedoral, Christchurch, is appointed Superior of a missionary section of the Manst Order, with whom will be associated the Rev. .Father Kimhell, S.M., of Wellington.
