The spread of the eucalyktus tree in. These he pl-n^d, and continuing to import amd propagate, he found a ready sale for the young trees. Ellwood Cooler, the present Commissioner of horticulture of t-he State, was another of ttibse who early bwq,n to, plant eucalvntus. Tn 1870 he planted some 200 acres, selecting for -i>he pumose exceedingly "oor land. To-day be hps a fine forest, and es+im&tes he co'vlid cut moo enrds yearly without imn>«iring the volume of ptrowt-h. v The experiment station of the University of California took u-n the planting of eucalyptus upon: the grounds atf Berkley, and has several large groves.
