DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS, Messrs. Wright, .Stephenson r: ~and Co.,' report as follows :— As. is usual about holiday time, the yard on Saturday was only moderately filled with a mixed " entry, made up mostly of light harness horses. Buyers were present on . the look-out for first-class sound young draughts fit for town work, but as 1 " our entry did ' not include any horses of this^ description,- not much business resulted. We had a few good spring-carters in theyards, and these changed hands readily at full market rates. The demand for second-class draughts has eased off somewhat, tout there are still good buyers about for really first-class young draught mares and geldings, heavy and staunch. G-ooid, sound, upstanding spring-cart and sparing-van sorts are also scarce, and are easJy placed at full rates. We quote : '-Superior young draught geldings, at from £45 to £50 ; extra good do (prize-winners), at from £50 to £55; superior young draught mares, at frcJra £50 to £60 ; medium draught mares and geldings, £30 to £40 ; aged -do, £15 to £20 ; well-matched carriage pairs,x£7o to £100 ; strong spring-van horses, £25 to £30 ; milk-cart and butchers' order-cart horses, £18 to £25 ; light hacks, £8 to £13 ; extra good hacks and harness horses, £13 to £25 ; -weedy and aged do, £5 to £7.
