(From our own correspondent:) July 12. I Wear that Inspector MacDonnell is improving in health after Ms recent severe illness. Mr. M. F. Bourke, in his characteristically generous sprit, presented the Young Men's Club with Ms billiard iaihle before taking his departure from this district. The Marist Brothers' School team-, by their recent victory over the Main Public School, have now establishes a good lead in the Schools' Championship. The Marist boys, who were far lighter than their- opponents, gained their victory by 8 points to 3. The members of the Oatholic Young Men's Club" are about to give a return social to the members of the Catholic Young Ladies' Association, and the function will partake of the nature of a compliment to Miss M. O'Oonnell, on the eve of her approaching marriage. Miss O'Umnell has .always given her services freely in t&e cause of anything Catholic or charitable, and both Ifre Catholic Young Men's Club and Catholic Young Ladies' Association wish to place on record an appreciation of her good work. I am pleased to be able to state that the Inspector of Native Schools, reporting on St. Joseph's girls' school, Napier, characterized i'he work as ' really excellent throughout the school, the degree of proficiency bee ing uniform from the preparafoiry classes upward.' The Jrasp'ector also states that ' a feature of the work is ftfe excellent reading, in which the enunciation, expression, "a"nd modulation of the voice and comprehension of the subject are remark abl©,' The report ends by sayins; that ' the excellent tone and spirit which rervaded the school are matters on which the authorities are to be congratulated.-'
