London, October 4.— The wool sales closed firm prices being the highest of the series. '
London, October s.— At the wool sales 40,000 bales were sold to Home buyers, 38,000 bales for the ConInnn ll^ i and 3000 bales for lhe United ■ States, while 9000 bales were held over. There was a strong market for all descriptions, and prices ranged from par to 5 per cent, above the opening rates-. -There was strong competition throughout, especially for merinos and fine crossbreds, arid towards the close of the sales the demand for slips and coarse crossbreds improved. Americans competed keenly for comebacks and merinos. The Longburn clip lealised ll|d, and the Glenwye clip ll|d. "
Messrs. Stronach, Morris and Co., report as follows :— Rabbitskins.— We offered a large catalogue at Monday's sal 6 when prices were much the same as those of the previous week, viz. : Summers to 8d ; autumns to 13£ d; second winters to 14 J ; winter bucks to 15d ; winter does to 18* d; fawna to 12id, and blacks to 14id. Horsehair made up to 19£ d per lb. Sheepskins. — We offered- a large catalogue at our sale on Tuesday, competition as usuaLbeing^kee^and prices much on a par with last week's. •" ,y^3>£. Hides.— We submitted a fair sfzed, catalogue at our sale on Ihursday last, and had a most satisfactory sale, prices all round being higher than we can remember "Our top price for ox was lid, and for cow hides 6#d per lb. We can confidently recommend consignments at present.
Tallow and Pat—No change toreport ; all coming forward being readily disposed of at late rates.
